Hotel THERESA – The History of Our Wellness Hotel
We are incredibly grateful and proud to be able to look back on more than 60 years of Hotel THERESA. So much has happened during this time – after all, the history of our wellness hotel in the Zillertal valley has always been a family story as well. Capturing over six decades on a single page seems almost impossible – and yet, it wouldn’t be like us not to at least give it a try. So, with that in mind: let’s set off on a journey through time — care to join us?
1964: The Beginning of Our Story
To start right at the very beginning, we have to go all the way back to the year 1964. After around two years of construction, the “Sport Pension Eberharter” opened its doors – the predecessor of our wellness hotel in the Zillertal valley. At the time, 30 beds were available for holiday guests in the Zillertal valley, who were also treated to culinary delights in three dining rooms. Of course, they were always warmly cared for by Theresia Eberharter and Siegfried Egger. The couple married in January 1964. In July, their first son Stefan was born – he would later not only take the helm of our wellness hotel in the Zillertal valley, but also delight his guests as head chef. Five years later, in April 1969, Stefan’s brother Alban was born.
Our Wellness Hotel in the Zillertal Valley During the 70s
After the turbulent early years, the 1970s brought something almost like a calm period to the Egger family and to Hotel THERESA. Although “calm” has always been a relative term at our wellness hotel in the Zillertal valley. Renovations and expansions continued, of course: the main building gradually took on the shape it has today. In addition, Siegfried and Theresia purchased the former dairy right next to the main building, which was later converted into the country house. And it wasn’t only Hotel THERESA that kept growing – the Egger family did as well. In 1974, Theresa, the younger sister of Stefan and Alban, was born.
Hotel THERESA: Rebuilding and Renovating during the 80s
While the 1970s were comparatively quiet, the 1980s were all the more dynamic. Year by year, the Sport Pension Eberharter evolved further into the wellness hotel in the Zillertal valley that we know and love today. For example, the property of today’s sunbathing meadow was acquired so that you can enjoy the warm rays of sunshine on your skin today. The existing swimming pool was renovated, and the wellness area was expanded to include a whirlpool. The reception, lounge, and restaurant were also redesigned, along with the VIP house. Even back then, comfort and quality were top priorities at Hotel THERESA: what had once been 30 rooms were transformed into 18 new VIP suites and rooms – offering more space and greater comfort for an even more enjoyable stay at our wellness hotel in the Zillertal valley.
Grandchildren and a Lot of Change: Our Wellness Hotel in the Zillertal Valley During the 90s
In 1992, the Egger family had something very special to celebrate: Stephanie, the first grandchild of Theresia and Siegfried, was born – and four years later, Franziska followed. With that, the third generation of hosts was already running through the corridors of Hotel THERESA – of course, also through the recently redesigned fireplace restaurant, the new seminar room, and past the refurbished reception. Only the new beauty area and the “Vital Welt” area were, for the time being, reserved for adults. Even back in the 1990s, Theresia and Siegfried were well aware that it was the warm hospitality and the exceptional THERESA team that made our wellness hotel in the Zillertal valley so special. That is why, in 1992, the THERESA team house was acquired to offer a Whome to many of our staff members.
A Sustainable Start into the New Millennium for Our Wellness Hotel in the Zillertal Valley
The beginning of the new millennium was duly celebrated at Hotel THERESA. We did so by renovating the main building of our hotel. Once finished, it not only looked more beautiful and modern, but was also equipped with a solar energy system that supplies power to the wellness area – because sustainable wellness holidays in the Zillertal valley are simply even more enjoyable. But that’s not all: when we rebuilt the outdoor pool, it was fitted with purification technology that works entirely without chlorine while still meeting the highest hygiene standards.
Sustainable is More: Renovations and Expansion at the Wellness Hotel in the Zillertal Valley
If you thought that things slowed down after all the renovations in the 2000s, you’d be mistaken! Not only did we redesign and refurbish the lounge and the country house rooms, we also modernised and expanded the spa area and fitness room. In 2009, for example, we created one of our absolute favourite places at Hotel THERESA: the saltwater pool with its views over meadows and mountains. Our staff house also received an “upgrade” in 2022: since its renovation and refurbishment, it has been completely self-sufficient thanks to modern, sustainable technology. And we didn’t forget the kids and teenagers either: since 2012, our little guests have been able to release their energy in the children’s playroom, while the older ones can hang out and have their own space in the youth lounge.
A Lot of Blessings for the Family at Hotel THERESA
The most recent entries in our chronicle brought a smile to all our faces – and they continue to do so today. In 2022, Stephanie married Philipp and in 2023, their daughter Paulina was born. Today, the fourth generation of the Egger family is part of Hotel THERESA – spreading joy and good spirit wherever they go.
The Future of Our Wellness Hotel in the Zillertal Valley
We don’t need a magic crystal ball to know that the coming years and decades at our wellness hotel in the Zillertal valley will bring anything but standstill. And perhaps we already have one or two ideas waiting to be brought to life. Of course, you will be the first to hear of them via our newsletter or social media channels. Looking back, above all we feel one thing: gratitude. Gratitude for the wonderful moments and encounters that make our wellness hotel in the Zillertal valley so special. Gratitude that you are part of this journey, too. And additionally, we’re deeply curious about everything the future will bring.
