Walking and hiking in
the Zillertal Valley

Lush meadows, rushing rivers, crystal-clear lakes and traditional wooden huts – summer is a magical time of year in the Zillertal Valley. Our hotel is blessed with a wonderful location right at the heart of a 1,000km network of walking and hiking trails offering everything from easy strolls to summit ascents.

Throughout the valley there are many cable cars (free of charge for guests staying at least one week with us) providing quick and easy access to the mountains. Our favourite walks
in the Zillertal Valley

This 2.5-hour walk is suitable for families and begins at the top of the Rosenalmbahn cable car. It leads through forests and meadows to the Kreuzwiesenalm mountain hut. Along the way you will find several information boards all about food and culinary traditions in the region. The first section of the hike up to the top of the Rosenalmbahn cable car can also be completed on foot if you want to work up a real appetite before reaching the hut.

This easy walking trail begins at the top of the Rosenalmbahn cable car and takes around 40 minutes to reach the Kreithütte hut. Suitable for children, it provides some wonderful views of the Zillertal Valley Mountains and the neighbouring Tux Alps. Information boards along the way provide information about the nature, history and geology of these peaks.

The "Kreuzweg Gerlosberg", as this trail is known to locals, takes 1.5 hours to complete and begins in the centre of Zell. Highlights along the way include the pretty Gerlosbergkapelle, a chapel built in 1951 and a popular place of rest and contemplation. This easy walk is also suitable for children.

This trail takes walkers to the thundering Talbach waterfall, a wonderful natural spectacle  showcasing the awesome power of nature. Leaving from the Zellbergbrücke bridge, take the trail along the Zillerpromenade until you reach the turning for Zellberg. Shortly after the second bend in the road, head into the forest and follow the signs for the Talbach waterfall.

There are few more spectacular views in the Zillertal Valley than the panorama which opens up on the hike from the Schlegeisspeicher reservoir to the Olpererhütte. This walk takes around 2.5 hours to complete and first crosses a forest before entering open terrain and offering adventurers truly majestic views of the reservoir itself and the surrounding mountains. Fit and motivated hikers can continue from the Olpererhütte to a further hut, the Friesenberghaus, following the Berlin High Trail.

Summer highlight: walk to Zellberghütte

Once a week we offer guests the chance to walk up to our personal mountain hut on the Zellberg mountain. The adventure begins with a shuttle from the hotel followed by an easy walk taking around 1 hour. Up at the top you can look forward to fantastic views and traditional dishes such as "Tiroler Gröstl" and apple strudel.
